Jannis Markopoulos was born in Athens in 1962. He studied at the Hochschule der Künste at Berlin (1987-1991) under K.H. Hödicke.
Since 1991 he has presented his work in 49 solo exhibitions in Greece, Germany, England, Belgium, Spain, Kenya, Russia, Korea, USA, Senegal (House of Culture Marchwitza - Potsdam, House of Culture Spandau - Berlin, Gallery Christoph Weber - Berlin, Gallery Pleiades - Athens, Gallery Loulou Lasard - Berlin, New National Gallery of Art - Berlin, Fuller Museum of Art - USA, Gallery Dolores Sierra - Madrid, Old National Gallery - Berlin, Mills Gallery at the Boston Center for the Arts - USA, Circulo de Bellas Artes - Madrid, Kalina Moskau - Russia, Neue Nationalgalerie - Berlin, Galerie T40 - Düsseldorf, VHS - Schwetzingen etc.) and has participated in over 20 group exhibitions in Greece, Korea, China, USA, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and England. He has also participated in numerous international art fairs as Fair 21 - Cologne, Scope Basel, Kiaf - Seoul, Bousan art fair - Korea, ARCO - Madrid etc.
