STAVROS STATHAKOPOULOS - VAKIS

The artist Vakis Stavros Stathakopoulos was born in Athens. He studied in the School of Fine Art in Athens under Giannis Moralis where he gained his Diploma having achieved the distinction of winning an award for his work. He also studied in Rome at the Instituto Centrale del Restauro. He worked for some time in Athens with Giannis Tsarouhis. Vakis lives and works in London and Athens. His artworks are inspired from the streets and the shops of both cities. Artworks made of various materials, unclaimed, which the artist collects and composes in such a way that they find a new use and a new life. In his works, cheapness appears as luxury. These materials, gain another value - a value that they never had in their first use- causing memories to the spectator.
