PAINTING

In his current work, Yorgis Vrachnos attempts to accentuate and restore the clarity and liveliness in colour. To relieve painting from any residue or suspicion of affectation. He wants his creations to appear both familiar and alien, earthbound and otherwordly. To be fresh, expanding, luminous. Therefore he paints flat, non-objectively, giving specific gravity and function to the decorative element. He is neither concealing nor searching for something. He is simply reminding himself and the viewer of the amount of mystery and beauty this lies in the surface of things. His subject matter is the very joy of creation; the fascination of existence. Because he is a person that draws inspiration and power from life, he doesn't paint in order to escape from her; on the contrary, he paints in order to live her better.
